Kandinsky Dream

Kandinsky Dream

90 × 40 × 20 cm

A unique bust-sculpture. This piece brings two traditions of the coloured square into dialogue: Kandinsky's scholarly art and the domestic art of crochet.

The body's pattern replays in paint what generations of women have done with the needle, the granny square, whose echo Kandinsky was already painting in his Farbstudie Quadrate without knowing it. A fine gilded line winds between each cell, partitioning the patchwork like the lead of stained glass.

The head, entirely covered in gold leaf, offers itself as a Byzantine icon, pure hieratic presence. At the shoulders, gold reveals the fixing holes, embraced as jewels. Absolute kintsugi, where rupture becomes beauty.
