Biography
I am Brigitte Dravet, a visual artist based in Toulon, on the French Riviera.
For me, creating has always felt natural—almost like a native language.
My mother was a watercolorist, and my father was an architect. I grew up surrounded by colors, lines, forms, and thoughtfully designed spaces. Painting and sculpture came naturally to me, serving as a way to extend that particular perspective on the world.
After studying visual arts, I explored photography, video, and painted stage backdrops.
At the time, I was painting massive canvases for theatrical productions.
To transport them, I would cut them up and mount the sections onto individual frames.
What began as a practical necessity evolved into my signature style: that is how my polyptychs were born. Diptychs, triptychs, and quadriptychs now form a core part of my work.
At the same time, I practiced as a sophrologist and relaxation therapist for fifteen years.
This practice deeply enriched my approach to creativity:
calm, attentive listening, and awareness of the present moment became the silent pillars of my artistic world.
Today I don't create in spite of my life. I create with it, from it.
My approach
Two practices, one soul:
Abstract painting and upcycled sculpture.
In both cases, I seek the same thing—to reveal the presence hidden within the material and to make each piece a unique, signature, unforgettable work of art.
My paintings are built up in successive layers—using palette knives, sponges, or my own hands. Mineral pigments, gold leaf, and textures capture the morning light differently than the evening light. Each canvas comes alive.
My sculptures are born from reclaimed materials—store mannequins, antique bronze chandeliers, forgotten fragments—transformed through gold leaf, patinas, and marble dust.
This is not recycling; it is alchemy.
My signature on the back of each artwork
On the back of each canvas, a ritual gesture seals the work.
A four-leaf clover, formed by my fingerprints dipped
in gold paint, encircled by the phrase:
"May the light be with you."
Alongside it, my handwritten signature and the title of the work.
It is both a certificate of authenticity and a good-luck charm. A physical trace of my hand—a final gesture offered to the person who will henceforth live with the canvas.
The Workshop
My studio is in Toulon, just a few hundred meters from the sea.
It overflows with pigments, canvases, and brushes coated in turquoise. With salvaged mannequins, antique chandeliers, and plaster busts waiting for their gold leaf. With found objects, materials, and the traces of creative gestures.
Every object here has a story. Every corner bears the mark of a work in progress—an intuition seeking its form.
It is the place where my paintings are born, where my sculptures come to life. Where calm settles in, and time unfolds in a different way.
It is also a part of myself, left behind day after day.
