Le Ciel est par-dessus la Mer

29 × 29 cm,
The title is borrowed from Verlaine. That suspended phrase which says everything of the gaze that contemplates, of the silence that accompanies, of that overwhelming simplicity we sometimes find before the horizon.
Above, a sea-green sky finely crackled, tender and textured, like a Mediterranean fresco eroded by salt. The matter carries the traces of time, the soft skin of an ancient light.
In the middle, the wide band of gold. Generous, radiant, mingled with blue, it crosses the canvas like an evidence. It is there that the encounter takes place, between what rises and what remains.
Below, the deep sea. A dense blue-green, muffled, almost secret. It is the weight of the world, its tranquil mass.
A work that contemplates. That invites one to settle, to breathe, to let be. Matter, structural plaster, acrylic, gold leaf. Wabi-sabi. The sky is above the sea. The light is above all.
