Hearth of Gold

Peinture abstraite marine or et cuivre, mer suspendue, texture plâtre, feuille d'or, ciel gris perle

80 × 80 cm.

"I've been a miner for a heart of gold." Neil Young was searching for a heart of gold through life. This work finds it, at the heart of a suspended sea, at the hour when the sun descends and lays upon the water all it holds most precious.

The sky is pearl grey. Held back, almost silent. It does not seek to shine. It lets the light descend gently to the sea, and it is there that everything happens.

The suspended sea extends like a shifting land. Browns, coppers, golds settle in wide vibrating bands. Gold leaf surfaces, shimmers, burns. Each glint is a glint of setting sun one would have wanted to hold on to. A warm caress laid upon the matter.

It is the light that warms. The one that comes at the end of the day and remains, even when everything else fades. A heart of gold at the centre of the canvas, an ode to the fleeting beauty of life, and to what, despite everything, endures.

Matter, structural plaster, acrylic, gold leaf. Wabi-sabi. To paint the heart that remains. To sculpt the warmth that stays.
