Couleur Lagon

80 × 80 cm, Technique mixte, plâtre structurel, acrylique, feuille d'or sur toile.
There are waters that resemble no other. Lagoons that time seems to have forgotten, sheltered from the world by a band of earth and rust. One arrives there by chance, and one never quite leaves.
Turquoise reigns. It occupies almost the entire canvas, dense, vibrant, mineral. It is that verdigris so particular to sheltered lagoons, a blue that has turned toward the earth, that has taken on the tint of oxidised copper, of patinated bronze. The crackled matter breathes like an old skin. It looks like a wall, the bottom of an ancient basin, a fresco erased by the centuries.
And at the bottom, the band of rust. Orange, copper, glints of deep blue. It is the shore, where the earth meets the water, where the iron of the rocks oxidises in contact with the salt. A burned frontier, laden with matter, where everything is memory.
It is a suspended place. An isolated lagoon out of time, where the world does not enter. A work that does not seek to seduce, it is there, simply, with its mineral beauty and its patina.
Matter, structural plaster, acrylic, gold leaf. Wabi-sabi. To paint the lagoon. To sculpt the patina.
